Lectureship in Retailing (based in Singapore)

In 2008 the University of Stirling successfully launched a retail marketing degree in Singapore. Currently the course has over 100 full time students. As part of its planned expansion, Stirling Management School is now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Retailing to assist in the delivery of this programme. It is likely that the successful candidate will be based permanently at the University’s Singapore office.

Applications are therefore invited from research active individuals with a publication record, and with a substantial programme of research targetted towards the regular publication of high quality academic outputs. You will have the ability to teach effectively, develop teaching materials, and perform related administrative/course management duties.

A good honours degree and a relevant PhD, or very nearly-completed PhD, are required. As the post may require travel within the region, candidates should have a valid passport. Further information about the desired personal characteristics is provided in the further particulars.

The Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing of Purdue University is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Retail Management (tenure track). Responsibilities will include: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in retail management, pursue funded research, participate in graduate student committees and assist in appropriate university, college and departmental duties.

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in retail management or closely related field. Background in retailing or business would be welcome and looked upon favorably. Evidence of teaching excellence is needed.

Position Description:

Chair and Professor, Department of Consumer Sciences.
The Department of Consumer Sciences seeks a chair who will lead faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders to new levels of scholarly/research excellence while embracing a consumer perspective as an organizing framework. The chair also will guide the development of innovative approaches for preparing students for productive careers in the three areas of study in the department: Consumer and Family Financial Services, Fashion and Retail Studies, and Hospitality Management.

We seek a candidate who possesses the following required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in one of the Department’s academic disciplines or a related area;
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement sufficient for tenure at the rank of Professor in one of the disciplines represented in the department;
  • Experience as a Chair or other significant academic unit leadership position with responsibilities encompassing fiscal management;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity; and
  • Evidence of ability to generate extra-mural funding.

In addition, the following are desired:

  • Record of mentoring and providing support for faculty and staff development;
  • Evidence of ability to build and sustain strong relationships with industry stakeholders;
  • Experience leading and working in interdisciplinary, inter-institutional and/or
    international collaborations;
  • Demonstrated commitment to outreach/engagement; and
  • Experience with distance education and e-learning.
